The old proverb states that “the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” and this is the first step of a new journey for my blog. It can be argued that the first step across the starting line is the most important, and certainly none of the other steps can happen without it.

It would be nice if the sound of the starting pistol and the energy of a cheering crowd could herald every first step. If only every starting point was accompanied by boundless energy, enthusiasm, and motivation. Those moments do happen, but if we wait for them many journeys never will. Such is the case with this post. I had tons of enthusiasm, inspiration and motivation for reviving this blog and the new direction I wanted to take it two nights ago. Unfortunately, it was getting late by the time I finished swapping in a new theme and fixing some of the glitches that occurred in the transition, and it was time for bed. Now, that I have some time to start writing again the momentum from a couple of days ago is gone, but that makes starting all the more important.

So the line I gained new perspective on today is starting. It is critical for any success and it generally needs to happen when we aren’t feeling very successful or motivated. The results of starting any endeavor are unknown, but the results of not starting are clear.
